Gundaling Hill
Visit Gundaling Hill for a panoramic view of Berastagi. Gundaling Hill is popular with both tourists and the locals. Tourists can find interesting souvenirs here and try horseback riding.
Fruit market / Souvenir stores
Take a 5-minute walk to the local fruit market. Try the ‘marquisa’ for a taste of Indonesia’s best-selling fruit. If you like wood carvings or handmade souvenirs, take your pick from amongst the various colorful shops. From the market, try the leisurely ride on the ‘sado’ (local horse-cart) around town.
Mount
Sibayak and Mount Sinabung From Berastagi, there is a clear view of Mount Sibayak and Mount Sinabung. Mount Sibayak is a 2000 metre-high dormant volcano and adventurous tourists can go for a 3-hour hike for a spectacular view from its peak (do bring a windbreaker as it can be cold up there). The more adventurous can choose to go on a 3 to 5-day trip into the jungle.
Hot Springs There are several hot springs in Berastagi. The warm water from the hot springs is well known for its medicinal and soothing effects on the skin. One of the hot springs, Raja Bernah, is located at the foot of Mount Sibayak. Marquisa Farm and Factory You might like to tour the local ‘marquisa’ (also known as passion fruit) farm and factory to see how the fruit is grown, harvested and processed into juice. After the tour, tourists can purchase bottled Marquisa juice direct from the factory. Sipiso-piso Waterfall About 45-minute journey by car from Berastagi is the Sipiso-piso Waterfall, a narrow waterfall in the Karo highlands, falling from a height of 360 feet into a gorge. This area is famed for its beautiful and panoramic scenery with green hills and the magnificent Lake Toba as its picturesque background. Taman Simalem Resort
